federal restric tion of 246080 acres per com pany in a single state Oil and gas exploration means tax benefits too Pennington says known scientific in the 1 Great Basin he says i Great sums have been spent i on shallow wells or test holes bringing out one new barrel of in the last I 25 years aside from the Eagle i Springs field he added I The Eagle Springs experience began when 1 they took over leases dropped by Shell Oil Co which had dis 1 covered the field 20 years ago Despite Shell warn i ings that the area was undrill able to any depth because of i a granite formation 1500 feet below the Penningtons went ahead and drilled al the base of the Grant Range predicted granite block was mysteriously missing and we struck the best producers in the field To date the Eagle Springs field has he says In addition he speculates that the current scare of extra gas taxes will prepare the public to accept higher prices due to the expensive of bring ing oil from the Arctic He also notes that gas short ages have run many indepen dent dealers out of business which he says will allow oil firms to sell petroleum products soley through major oil is beyond belief that bril liant executives woke up
